No. The Engine DJ desktop user guide for version 5.0 covers the library, playlists, track editing and Sync Manager, and has no recording screen anywhere in it. The recorder is part of the Control Center on EngineOS hardware. If you are playing from a laptop with the unit in computer mode, record in the software driving the show, or take an output into a separate recorder. The recording lands as one long file. If you saved a cue sheet alongside it, the CUE splitter cuts it back into individual tracks.

Drag tracks or folders from Finder or Explorer onto the track list or the Collection pane in the desktop software, or locate them with the File System Browser in the Collection pane. Existing libraries come across through Import Assistant, which handles iTunes and Apple Music, Serato, Traktor and rekordbox. Then open Sync Manager, choose your drive and export it to the drive.

There are three routes. On EngineOS hardware, use the Record page in the Control Center and save to a connected drive. On a laptop, use the recorder built into your DJ software. Or take the record or booth output of the mixer into a separate audio recorder or interface. The first has the fewest parts that can fail while you are playing.

Serato DJ Pro records from its REC panel with the input set to Mix. VirtualDJ records the master output from Settings, Record. rekordbox records in PERFORMANCE mode, and its FAQ lists Recording among the features unlocked by connecting a supported Hardware Unlock device. Engine DJ desktop is the exception: it prepares your library, it does not capture audio.

Usually the one already carrying your master signal, because every extra cable or application is another thing to go wrong mid-set. On Denon DJ and Numark standalone gear that is the unit itself: nothing to install, and Denon DJ documents PRIME 4+ takes as 24-bit, 44.1 kHz WAV written to a Sessions folder. On a laptop rig, use your DJ software's own recorder instead.

It depends on what you need it to do, and recording is where the free tiers differ most. The VirtualDJ HOME license lets you use an entry-level controller without limits, but it keeps the branding and is not licensed for paid or public events. rekordbox unlocks features, Recording included, when a supported Hardware Unlock device is connected. Engine DJ desktop prepares drives but never records.

Use a phone DJ app that has its own recorder. In djay for iOS, the REC button at the bottom left of the menu opens the mix recorder, and you can save the file as AAC or as uncompressed WAV. Algoriddim documents one hard limit: mixes containing streamed tracks from Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL, Beatport or SoundCloud cannot be recorded. Stop the recording before closing the app, or the file can end up corrupted.

Usually the audio setup. VirtualDJ records its own master output internally, so a rig built around an external mixer leaves it nothing to capture, because the mixer and not the software is doing the mixing. Treat it as one continuous take, because none of these recorders let you punch in and fix a transition afterwards. Decide the tracklist first, check your levels on the loudest track in it, and start the recorder before the first track rather than a minute into it. Save and name the file the moment you stop. Listening back the next day is what actually improves the next one.

If the file is missing, it was most likely never saved. After Stop you have to tap Save As, title it and tap Done, and tapping Clear deletes the take instead. Saved files sit in a folder called Sessions on the media device you selected, reachable under Files in the Library. On level, Maximize Recording Volume normalizes the file at -1 dBFS and is enabled by default.
