Import rekordbox library in one pass.

To move a rekordbox library, click File > Library > Backup Library on the old machine, then File > Library > Restore Library on the new one and open the .zip or .edb. The detail most guides skip: say Yes when rekordbox asks about the music files, and keep the rekordbox_bak folder at the same path as the backup, or the tracks come back marked missing. How it works.

Step 01Pick your source

Open the Import Library window and Vibes shows the DJ apps it found on your machine under Smart Import. Choose Rekordbox and it reads the library database directly, or point it at an exported XML, a folder, single files, or a playlist file.

Step 02Check the preview

Nothing is written until you say so. You see the full playlist tree with track counts, how many tracks are new, and how many audio files are missing, and you decide per row: import it, skip it, or turn it into a vibe.

Step 03Import and carry on

Tracks arrive with title, artist, BPM, key, length, rating, and the date they were added. Keep the analysis rekordbox already did, or let Vibes analyze what is missing in the background while you work.

What comes across

BPM and key arrive already set.

Vibes reads title, artist, BPM, key, length, rating and date added out of your rekordbox library, plus the beat grid offset where rekordbox stored one. Tick Use Source Analysis to keep those values, or leave it off and Vibes analyzes the files itself. Hot cues and loops are not part of the import; they stay in rekordbox.

Every folder and playlist is a row in the preview you can import, skip, or turn into a vibe under a category you name. Nested rekordbox folders keep their shape, so a folder of playlists can come in as a category with its playlists as the vibes inside it.

Ratings and tags

Star ratings and your own tags come too.

Ratings land as the same one to five stars you set in rekordbox. Vibes also scans the Genre, Mood and Grouping fields on your files, shows how many tracks carry each one, and offers to turn them into vibes, so a system you already keep in your tags survives the move.

After the import

Clean it up from the keyboard.

Files that are not where the library says they are get flagged and skipped instead of imported as dead rows, and tracks already in Vibes are counted as existing rather than duplicated. From there the library workspace takes over: filter, bulk re-analyze, rate, and fix a wrong BPM or key without leaving the keyboard.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

On the old computer click File > Library > Backup Library, answer Yes when rekordbox asks whether to back up the music files as well, and save the backup. On the new computer click File > Library > Restore Library and open the .zip or .edb. The backup carries your collection, playlists, cues, waveforms and beat and tempo data. Click File > Library > Restore Library, click OK, select the backup data (.zip or .edb) and click Open. Rekordbox replaces your current data with the backup, so anything added since that date is gone. To get the music files back too, the rekordbox_bak folder has to sit at the same path as the backup data. Backups from older rekordbox versions restore as .edb files.
In its own folder, not with your music. On Mac that is /Users/yourusername/Library/Pioneer/rekordbox, on Windows C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Pioneer\rekordbox. Both parent folders may be hidden, so unhide them first. Your audio files stay wherever you put them and the database only stores the path to each one, which is why moving a music folder breaks tracks while the database itself is still fine.
Inside the rekordbox library database, not as playlist files you can browse. That is why there is no folder of .m3u files for your rekordbox playlists, and why a library backup is the only thing that carries them all. To get one onto a USB drive you export it in EXPORT mode: drag the playlist onto the stick under Devices and the tracks go with their cues, written into a separate device library on the stick. Step by step: export a playlist to USB in rekordbox.
Open Preferences > Advanced > Database and use Database management to pick the master database. Rekordbox can transfer the master database to an external device, and the analyzed files go with it, so a drive holding both your music and your database can be carried between computers. Move the music first, then use File > Display All Missing Files to relocate anything rekordbox has lost.
For a playlist file, click File > Import > Import Playlist and choose the M3U, M3U8 or PLS. For a playlist that lives on a USB stick, connect the stick, open it under Devices in the tree, right-click the playlist or folder and choose Import Playlist or Import Folder: the tracks and their playlist join your collection. If you have a library backup, File > Library > Restore Library brings the playlist back, together with everything else from that date. If you do not, check a USB stick you exported it to: connect it, right-click the playlist under Devices and choose Import Playlist. On a paid rekordbox plan it can also back up a device library separately, so a dead stick is not always the end. See back up your DJ library.
