rekordbox, Serato and Traktor each keep playlists in their own library, and the rekordbox manual names no third-party DJ app it can import one from, so a playlist crosses over as a file both apps accept or through a tool that writes the second app's library directly. rekordbox imports M3U, M3U8 and PLS, Traktor imports NML playlist files, and Serato DJ Pro documents no crate export at all, only a History session export to txt, csv or m3u. How it works.

Step 01Save the playlist to a file

In rekordbox, right-click a playlist and pick Export a playlist to a file, as .txt or .m3u8. In Traktor, right-click the playlist and pick Export Playlist, which writes a folder with the tracks and an .nml. Serato documents no crate export, only a History session export.

Step 02Import it in the other app

In rekordbox, use File > Import > Import Playlist, which accepts M3U, M3U8 and PLS. In Traktor, right-click the Playlists folder and pick Import Playlist, or drop an .nml file onto it.

Step 03Rebuild what the file left behind

A playlist file lists file locations, with a title and a length at most. Analyze the tracks again in the receiving app, then redo cue points, loops and ratings by hand.

What travels

A playlist file carries paths, not your work.

M3U, M3U8 and PLS say where the files sit on disk. BPM, key, cue points, loops and ratings live inside each app's own database, so the receiving app has to analyze the tracks again. rekordbox XML is the one exception on that side: switch on Export BeatGrid information under Preferences > Advanced > Database and the beatgrid is written into the file.

What you send

Ratings, cue points and vibes as comments.

Per app, you choose what rides along. Star ratings go across as 1 to 5. Auto-generated cue points are added without overwriting cues you set yourself. Vibes can be written into the comment field as [tags] so smart playlists can filter on them, and in Traktor you pick Comment, Comment 2, or both. Serato crate files hold none of the three.

Always a way out

M3U8 and rekordbox XML for everything else.

Export to file writes a Vibes Export folder with M3U8 playlists nested by category plus a rekordbox.xml, readable anywhere and available even when no DJ library is detected on the machine. Either route can subdivide each playlist into BPM or Camelot key subfolders, so a 400-track category arrives already split.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

In Traktor, right-click the playlist in the Browser Tree and choose Export Playlist. Traktor writes a folder holding the tracks plus an .nml playlist file, and rekordbox does not read .nml. The one export Traktor documents an M3U option for is Export Smartlist, and rekordbox takes M3U, M3U8 and PLS under File > Import > Import Playlist. Beatgrids, cues and ratings stay behind either way. Per-app detail lives on rekordbox and Traktor.
Serato DJ Pro documents no crate export. Its one file export sits in the History panel: select a session, then export it as txt, csv or m3u, and that m3u imports into rekordbox under File > Import > Import Playlist. A crate you never played is not a session, so you either rebuild it in rekordbox by hand or use a tool that reads the Serato library and writes rekordbox. See Serato.
At the file level yes, at the library level no. Both play the same audio files, and rekordbox imports M3U, M3U8 and PLS playlist files. But the rekordbox manual names no third-party DJ app it can import a library from: its bridges are iTunes, rekordbox XML and rekordbox's own devices, so a Traktor collection.nml is not something rekordbox opens. Cue points, loops, beatgrids and ratings are stored per app and have to be rebuilt or carried across by a third tool.
Yes. Engine DJ is the fourth export target in Vibes and receives the same Vibes Library folder tree as the other three. Engine DJ also ships its own Serato bridge: in Preferences, on the Integration tab, enable the Serato library, then right-click a crate and choose Import as Playlist, which brings music, playlists, hot cues and loops across. It is the safer order. rekordbox and Engine DJ read their database when they launch, so an export written while the app is open only shows up once you restart it. Either way, Vibes backs up the rekordbox and Engine DJ databases and Traktor's collection.nml before it writes. When you reopen the app, the playlists sit under a Vibes Library folder in the browser tree.
No. Vibes removes only the folders, playlists and cue points a previous Vibes export created, each carrying its own marker, so hot cues, memory cues, loops and playlists you made yourself are untouched. Your audio files are not written to at all: everything lands in the DJ app's own library files. Vibes also keeps the five most recent timestamped backups of collection.nml. Carrying cues across apps is covered on switching DJ software.
Because a playlist file or a crate carries file paths, not analysis. rekordbox only analyzes on import when Auto Analysis is enabled, so open the exported folder, sort by Key, select the tracks with an empty key, right-click and choose Analyze Track. Traktor and Serato follow the same pattern: select the untagged tracks in the collection or crate and run the app's own analyze command.
