How to · Rekordbox

Fix wrong key detection in Rekordbox.

Rekordbox analyzes key automatically, but the read can be wrong on tracks that change tempo or modulate. Here is how to improve it, and how to re-key tracks accurately.

Improving key detection in Rekordbox.

A few settings make Rekordbox's key analysis more reliable and easier to read for harmonic mixing.

01

Turn on key analysis

In Preferences > Analysis, make sure KEY is checked in the Track Analysis Settings so every imported track gets a key value automatically.

02

Switch to Camelot display

Go to Preferences > View > Key display format and select Alphanumeric. This shows Camelot codes (1A, 1B, 2A, etc.) so compatible keys are easy to read at a glance.

03

Re-analyze suspect tracks

Right-click a track and choose Analyze Track, then select the analysis mode from the dialog dropdown. Note that Dynamic mode improves beatgrid accuracy for variable-tempo tracks but is a BPM/grid feature, not a key detection mode. If a track has a bad key reading, re-analyzing with KEY checked is the relevant action, not switching to Dynamic.

04

Correct by hand if needed

If a key is still wrong, right-click the track, open its Info panel, and edit the Key field directly. Your harmonic tools and Related Tracks will then use the corrected value. Consider locking the track afterward to prevent future analysis from overwriting your correction.

The catch

Rekordbox key detection can misread harmonically complex tracks, heavily modulated music, or low-quality audio files. Correcting each one by hand is slow, so a spot-check workflow (checking new imports as a batch before gigs) and locking corrected tracks are good habits. Dynamic analysis mode does not improve key detection; it only affects beatgrid accuracy for tracks with variable tempo.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

Standard key analysis assumes a steady tempo and a clear tonal center. Tracks that change tempo, modulate, or are heavily layered can throw it off. Dynamic analysis helps for variable-tempo tracks.
Rekordbox corrections are mostly one track at a time. Vibes re-analyzes your whole library and lets you export corrected keys back into Rekordbox, which is faster across a big collection.
Yes. Once corrected keys are exported back into Rekordbox and out to USB, they appear on CDJs like any other analyzed value.
