About Vibes

Built by a DJ, for DJs.

Vibes is a library organizer made by someone who lived the mess: thousands of tracks, no system, and sets that never quite came together. It's the tool I always wanted but could never find.

The Vibes interface, where tracks are organized by vibe

The app I built to make my own library make sense.

How Vibes came to be.

Chapter 012018: the mess

I started DJing and my library was chaos from day one. Downloads piled up at random and tracks I loved got buried, never to be played again.

Chapter 02The breaking point

I got frustrated enough to build my own fix: a visual way to organize tracks by mood, energy, and the exact moment they belong in a set.

Chapter 03Opening it up

What began as a personal tool became Vibes, now in the hands of DJs who want the same clarity without the subscriptions and lock-in.

In my own words.

Ben, founder of Vibes

Hey, it's Ben 👋

Vibes started as my own problem. I've been DJing since 2018, self-taught, and my library was chaos from the first download. The tracks I loved kept getting buried, and the moment a set needed them, I couldn't find them.

I tried to fix it the usual ways: folders, playlists, rating systems, other apps. None of them matched how I actually think about music. I don't reach for a track by its filename, I reach for a feeling: the mood, the energy, the exact moment in a set where it belongs.

Here's the part most tools don't have behind them: I'm not a DJ with an idea waiting on a developer. By trade I'm a UX/UI designer and frontend developer, so when nothing worked the way my head did, I could sit down and build it. Vibes is designed and coded by the same person who plays it out on the weekend.

That shaped every decision in the app. Tag by vibe instead of fighting folders. Keep your library offline and yours, with no subscription and no algorithm deciding what you hear. Sort by hand when you want to, because knowing your own crates is how you read a room. It's a personal, visual way to organize that respects how a DJ actually thinks.

I still play across Cologne's scene, still produce as “so I so,” and I still run my own library through Vibes every week. It isn't a faceless startup. It's one person who ships the updates, reads every email, and fixes what feels off. Tell me, and I'll actually fix it.

What Vibes stands for.

Three ideas shaped every decision in the app.

No busywork

Save time, play more music

Stop re-downloading, re-tagging, and digging. Keyboard-first sorting and a clear library mean more time behind the decks and less time managing files.

Auto-tag learns from vibes you picked. For newer vibes, it can still make a name-based guess.

Learned uses tagged tracks and is more accurate. Guessing uses the vibe name, so it still works but is less accurate.

No lock-in

Yours forever, fully offline

One-time purchase, works offline, no cloud required, and no algorithm deciding what you hear. Tagging runs locally on your machine. Your library stays yours.

Your system

Organize how you actually think

Tag tracks by mood, energy, role, and the moment they belong in a set. Vibes bends to the system in your head instead of forcing you into folders.

Build any system you want.

Mood, role, groove, genre, setting. Tag tracks the way they actually live in your head, then let Vibes do the sorting.

Vibes is built and operated by Ben Modigell, a DJ and music producer (releasing as “so I so”) who also works as a UX/UI designer and frontend developer. It’s one person who plays out, ships the updates, and answers the emails, not a faceless startup.
Because your music library is yours, and a tool you rely on shouldn’t hold it hostage behind a monthly fee. You buy Vibes once, it works offline, and it keeps working whether or not you ever pay again. All 1.x updates are included.
Vibes is independently built and operated from Cologne, Germany. Full legal and company details are on the imprint page.
Yes. Every message sent through the contact page reaches Ben directly, and feature requests genuinely shape the roadmap. You’re talking to the person who builds the app, not a support queue.
