Move from Rekordbox to Engine DJ.

Moving to Engine DJ usually means buying into Denon standalone players that run without a laptop. Here is exactly what carries across, what gets lost, and how to bring your whole library over without starting from scratch.

A DJ library organized in Vibes with BPM, key, and vibe tags intact after moving from Rekordbox to Engine DJ

Bring your collection across without losing your work.

Switching from Rekordbox to Engine DJ, or running both, means moving your collection without losing the cues, grids, and tags you have built up. Engine DJ imports Rekordbox natively, and you choose hot cues or memory cues at import.

What transfers from Rekordbox to Engine DJ.

CapabilityCarriesWhat happens
Audio filesYour tracks move with the library and the files are never modified.
Playlists & cratesFolders and playlists are rebuilt in Engine DJ.
Key & BPMAnalyzed values carry across, or are re-analyzed cleanly and accurately.
Hot cuesCues carry; on the native Rekordbox import some users report cue and grid offsets, which a clean tool avoids.
BeatgridsBeatgrids carry so your tracks stay locked in time.
Star ratingsStar ratings carry into Engine DJ.
Comments & tagsComments carry; Engine has no custom-tag field, so they live in comments.

Using a metadata-aware library tool. A manual drag-and-drop rebuild loses everything except the audio files. Engine DJ imports Rekordbox natively, and you choose hot cues or memory cues at import.

Moving from Rekordbox to Engine DJ, step by step.

This pair has a real native path: Engine DJ Desktop reads Rekordbox collections directly, with the Import Assistant guiding the whole flow since Engine DJ 5.0.

01

Open the Rekordbox import in Engine DJ

In Engine DJ Desktop, use the Import Assistant, or enable the Rekordbox integration in the preferences and open the Rekordbox source in the sidebar. Engine reads the collection Rekordbox maintains on your computer.

02

Import your playlists

Import the whole tree with Import Collection from the right-click menu, or bring playlists across one by one with Import as Playlist. Playlists, beatgrids, and loops come along, and you choose whether hot cues or memory cues are imported; Engine takes one type, not both.

03

Check what arrived

Spot-check grids and cues on a handful of tracks. Some users report small cue or grid offsets on this import, so a quick pass catches them before they bite at a gig.

04

Load a drive with Sync Manager

Use Sync Manager to push the imported playlists to a USB drive or SD card for your standalone hardware, then spot-check a few tracks on the player itself before a gig.

The cue-type choice is real: hot cues or memory cues, not both, so decide which set you actually perform with. Keep Rekordbox reasonably current too; Engine's own FAQ ties Rekordbox 6 support to the xml export that returned in version 6.3.0.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

Yes. Engine DJ Desktop reads Rekordbox collections natively: import everything with Import Collection or per playlist with Import as Playlist, guided by the Import Assistant since Engine DJ 5.0. Playlists, grids, loops, and your chosen cue type come across.
Because Engine imports one cue type per run, not both. Pick the set you actually use in performance. If your workflow splits duties between hot and memory cues, consolidate the important ones into a single type in Rekordbox before importing.
Some users report them on certain files, though there is no official acknowledgment. The safe play is a spot-check: import, open a few known tracks, and confirm cues sit where you set them before loading a drive for a gig.
