DJ software, head to head

Traktor vs djay Pro.

Traktor is knobs-deep performance software for local files; djay Pro is streaming-friendly, mobile-first, and easier to learn. Very little overlap, very different DJs.

Pick Traktor if you play local files and want deep control over effects; pick djay Pro if you DJ from streaming on Mac, iPhone, or iPad. Vibes exports to Traktor, and djay Pro imports a Serato library.

Choose Traktor if

  • You lean on effects and live remixing: Traktor's FX engine and Remix Decks lead the field
  • You want one purchase, $149, with every feature included
  • You produce electronic music and want deep, tweakable control
  • Your library is local files rather than streaming

Choose djay Pro if

  • You live in the Apple ecosystem: Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Music
  • You want the best stems quality, even on mobile hardware
  • You DJ from streaming catalogs like Apple Music, Spotify, or TIDAL
  • You want the friendliest possible start as a beginner

Where Traktor wins.

If these match how you DJ, Traktor is your answer.

Effects and remix decks

Over 40 effects, freely routable, plus Remix Decks, the Pattern Player drum machine, and an Ozone loudness maximizer. No other DJ app turns the laptop into an instrument like this.

One-time price

$149 buys everything: stems, Pattern Player, Ozone Maximizer, DVS timecode control. NI scrapped the subscription tier with Pro 4.

Producer-grade control

Flexible beatgrids, four-deck workflows, and MIDI mapping depth make Traktor the choice for technical, electronic-leaning DJs who tweak everything.

Where djay Pro wins.

If these match how you DJ, djay Pro is your answer.

Neural Mix stems

djay's stem separation runs in real time on an iPhone or iPad, hardware no rival matches it on.

Runs everywhere Apple

Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android, and Vision Pro, with the iPad app widely considered the best tablet DJ experience available.

Low cost of entry

$49.99 per year with a genuinely usable free tier undercuts every major rival, though there is no one-time license.

Whichever you choose

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

Traktor suits producer-DJs and effects-heavy performers who play their own local files. djay Pro is the pick for Apple-centric DJs, iPad DJing, and streaming-first sets. There is no universal winner: match the tool to where and how you play.
djay Pro imports Serato libraries directly; Rekordbox and Traktor libraries come in through OneLibrary (USB or SD card). Traktor does not import other DJ apps' libraries directly. Anything the apps cannot carry across, expect to rebuild by hand.
Traktor Pro 4 is $149 one-time with every feature included, and it comes free with NI Kontrol controllers. djay Pro is $6.99 per month or $49.99 per year with a free tier; there is no one-time license. Prices change, so check both official pricing pages before deciding.
Traktor is deeper and more technical, a steeper start unless it came bundled with your NI controller. djay Pro is widely considered the easiest on-ramp into DJing, especially on iPad.
Vibes imports Traktor's NML library and exports playlists back to Traktor. Vibes does not export to djay Pro directly, but djay imports the Rekordbox or Serato library that Vibes keeps organized. Vibes is our own tool for tagging tracks by vibe and building sets visually, and it sits alongside either app rather than replacing it.

From a Vibes customer

The import worked perfectly. Have created several sets now and my life is so much easier

Methodology

How we keep this honest.

Verified against the sources

Every claim is checked against the official Traktor and djay Pro sites and current independent reviews.

We own our bias

We make Vibes, a library tool that works alongside both apps. We sell neither Traktor nor djay Pro, which keeps this one neutral.
