How it works.

Step 01Get everything in one list

Import from Rekordbox, Serato, Traktor, Engine DJ, an Apple Music XML, or plain folders. Copies that live in two different apps only read as duplicates once they sit in the same library.

Step 02Run the scan

Open Actions above your library and choose Find duplicates. Every group is labeled with what matched it: Same file, Same track info, or Sounds identical.

Step 03Keep one, clear the rest

Each group arrives with the best copy kept and the others checked. Change any checkbox, then remove the extras from the library or move the files to the Trash.

Three layers

Matched by sound, not just by filename.

The first layer hashes the file itself, so a renamed copy still matches. The second matches the same artist and title when the two lengths are within two seconds. The third compares how the tracks actually sound, which is what catches a WAV and an MP3 of the same song under different names. That last layer only reaches tracks Vibes has already analyzed, because it needs the cached audio fingerprint. Each group shows the layer that found it.

The copy worth keeping is already picked.

Vibes keeps AIFF or WAV over FLAC or ALAC over a lossy file, then the longer version, then the rated one, then the bigger file, then the oldest import. Override any pick with its checkbox, mark a group Not duplicates to keep it out of later scans, and choose between removing the extras from your library and moving the files to the Trash. Restore dismissed brings back anything you set aside by mistake.

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

Mostly record pools and download stores, plus label promos, Bandcamp buys, and old drives carried over from a previous setup. That is exactly how duplicates pile up: the same track arrives as a pool MP3 one month and a store WAV the next, under a different filename. Pulling every one of those sources into a single library first is what lets a duplicate scan see the pair at all.
Rekordbox 7.0.4 added the ability to view and delete duplicate tracks. It detects files that share a Title and Artist, lists them in the Duplicated File Manager, and lets you pick one representative file and merge the rest, which drops them from the library while the audio stays on your drive. It depends what you are cleaning. For documents, any duplicate file finder does the job. For a DJ library, pick one that compares audio as well as tags, shows format, length, and rating so you can judge which copy to keep, and does not leave your DJ app pointing at a file you deleted. Traktor's own manual only covers removing duplicates inside a playlist, so start from the walkthroughs for Serato and Traktor.
Do not trust filenames. Group candidates by file size, hash the ones that match, then compare tags and audio, so a rename or a re-encode cannot hide a copy from you. Decide the keep rule before you delete anything: best format, longest version, highest rating. Then move the extras to the Trash rather than erasing them, so a wrong call is one restore away.
For documents and photos, a general tool that hashes file contents is enough. Music is different: the same song is often a 320 kbps MP3 in one folder and a WAV in another, so the bytes never match and only an audio comparison finds the pair. If your duplicates are tracks, use something built for a music library, and let it read BPM, key, and ratings while it works.

Storage Sense, the built-in cleanup tool, deletes temporary files, empties the Recycle Bin on a schedule, and can clear old Downloads or make cloud files online-only, but it never looks for duplicates. Finding repeated songs on Windows takes a separate tool, and for a DJ library it takes one that compares audio instead of filenames.
