A clean, duplicate-free library loads faster and is easier to navigate mid-set.

Find and remove duplicate tracks in Serato DJ Pro, step by step.

Serato DJ Pro does not include a native duplicate-detection tool. To surface duplicate files you must either use the Files tab to rescan and sort your library manually, rely on iTunes's built-in duplicate finder if your collection is iTunes-managed, or use a third-party tool such as dupeGuru. The steps below cover the manual in-app workflow for identifying and removing tracks you know to be duplicates, plus the cleanup steps once duplicates are confirmed.

01

Open the Files tab and rescan your library

Launch Serato DJ Pro and make sure all drives and folders containing your music are connected and visible. Click the Files tab in the left sidebar to browse your connected drives. To force Serato to refresh its metadata index, navigate to your music folder in the Files tab and use the Rescan ID3 Tags option (available in the Library section of Setup, or by right-clicking a folder). Serato can only surface tracks it currently has indexed.

02

Sort by location to surface potential duplicates

In the main library view, click the Location column header to sort all tracks by file path. Tracks stored in multiple folders or with identical metadata will cluster together, making duplicate candidates visible. You can also sort by Title, then cross-reference the Location column to spot files with the same name in different directories. There is no automatic 'Show Duplicates' scan in Serato DJ Pro; this manual sort is the closest native method.

03

Review each duplicate candidate before acting

Check the file path, bitrate, and format for each candidate pair before deleting anything. Prefer the higher-bitrate file or the copy stored in your primary music folder. Be cautious: Serato has no metadata-match engine, so two tracks with the same title can be legitimately different edits. For a more thorough scan, use a third-party tool such as dupeGuru on your music folder before returning to Serato.

04

Remove the unwanted copy and re-analyze if needed

Right-click the track you want to remove and choose Remove from Library to unlink it from Serato's index. To also delete the source file from disk, use Shift plus Ctrl/Cmd plus Delete, which removes it from the library and sends the file to the Trash in one step (confirm the 'Protect Library' option is off in Setup > Library). After cleanup, select your remaining tracks, right-click, and choose Analyze Files to ensure BPM, key, and waveform data is complete across your refreshed library.

The catch

Serato DJ Pro has no native duplicate detection engine. The manual sort-by-location method surfaces obvious duplicates but will miss files with slightly different names, tags, or encoding settings. For a thorough cleanup, use a third-party duplicate finder such as dupeGuru on your music folder before working in Serato, then remove confirmed duplicates from the library as described above.

Where Vibes fits

Prep your library before and after the cleanup

Vibes does not have a built-in duplicate finder, but it is the right tool for the work that surrounds a library cleanup: spotting gaps in analysis data, organizing what remains, and making sure Serato gets clean metadata on export.

See how it works
Filter tracks missing BPM or key analysis before cleanup so you catch unanalyzed duplicates Serato might not surface
Tag tracks by energy and vibe after deduplication so your trimmed library is organized and ready to perform
Re-export clean crates and playlists directly into Serato .crate files once the duplicates are gone
Use track analysis including BPM, key, and energy curve to confidently pick the better copy when two versions look similar

Organize in Vibes, export to Serato DJ Pro.

Your playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points travel back to the gear you play on, so nothing you do in Vibes is locked away.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

No. Vibes is a library prep and export tool, not a duplicate detector. Use Serato's built-in Show Duplicates feature to do the actual cleanup. Vibes helps you analyze and organize your library before and after that process.
Yes. If a removed track was sitting in one or more crates, those crate slots will be empty after deletion. Check your most-used crates after cleanup and re-export from Vibes if you use it to manage your Serato crate structure.
Generally no. Serato's duplicate detection relies on metadata matching, so an MP3 and a WAV of the same song with different file names or tags will not be flagged. You will need to spot those manually by sorting on track title and artist.
