A DJ library organized in Vibes with BPM, key, and vibe tags intact after moving from Engine DJ to Traktor

Bring your collection across without losing your work.

Switching from Engine DJ to Traktor, or running both, means moving your collection without losing the cues, grids, and tags you have built up. Traktor has no Engine DJ importer; both apps hold eight cue slots, so counts map, and Engine keeps its data per drive.

What transfers from Engine DJ to Traktor.

CapabilityCarriesWhat happens
Audio filesYour tracks move with the library and the files are never modified.
Playlists & cratesFolders and playlists are rebuilt in Traktor.
Key & BPMAnalyzed values carry across, or are re-analyzed cleanly and accurately.
Hot cuesCues carry, but Traktor's eight-hotcue limit can truncate extras and cue colors are lost.
BeatgridsBeatgrids carry so your tracks stay locked in time.
Star ratingsStar ratings carry into Traktor.
Comments & tagsComments carry into the Comment fields Traktor uses for tagging.

Using a metadata-aware library tool. A manual drag-and-drop rebuild loses everything except the audio files. Traktor has no Engine DJ importer; both apps hold eight cue slots, so counts map, and Engine keeps its data per drive.

Moving from Engine DJ to Traktor, step by step.

Traktor cannot read an Engine DJ library. Start from the right place: Engine keeps a database per drive in an Engine Library folder, often on your performance USB rather than the laptop, and that is what the conversion tool needs to read.

01

Get the audio files in

Add your music folders to Traktor so the tracks themselves are in the collection, then let it analyze them.

02

Rebuild or convert playlists

Traktor has no importer for Engine DJ libraries, so playlists are rebuilt by hand or translated by a library tool.

03

Carry the cues within the limits

Engine's eight hot cues map onto Traktor's eight slots one to one. Traktor keeps loops in the same slot pool, so Engine saved loops become loop hotcues and compete with cues for space on busy tracks.

04

Verify before a gig

Spot-check a sample of tracks to confirm cues, grids, and keys landed correctly before you rely on the library.

Convert from the drive that actually holds your Engine collection, and expect tags to land in Traktor's comment fields. Grids carry with a metadata-aware tool, which matters double on tracks you had gridded for standalone players.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

No. Traktor's documented imports are music folders and an iTunes or Music library. A library tool reads the Engine Library database from your drive and writes Traktor's collection with playlists, cues, loops, and grids mapped.
Each drive holds its own: Engine DJ writes an Engine Library folder per drive, so your real collection often lives on the USB you play from. Convert from that drive, or consolidate your drives inside Engine DJ before the move.
Cues map eight to eight, so counts are safe. Loops arrive into Traktor's shared slot pool as loop hotcues, so tracks using many cues plus loops have to prioritize. Verify a sample of tracks before you trust the whole batch.
