How to ยท Engine DJ

Set quantize (beat snap) in Engine DJ.

Quantize snaps hot cues and loop points to the nearest beat as you set them. Getting clean results depends on having an accurate beatgrid before you hit the button.

Set quantize (beat snap) in Engine DJ, step by step.

Engine DJ 4.x includes a Cue/Loop Quantization setting in its Preferences that snaps hot cues, loop in/out points, and loop rolls to the beat division you choose. The steps below cover enabling it in the desktop software and setting the beat division.

01

Load a track onto a deck

Open Engine DJ and drag a track from your collection onto Deck 1 or Deck 2. The waveform and beatgrid will appear in the deck view. Make sure the track has been analyzed so a beatgrid is present before you proceed.

02

Open Preferences and find Cue/Loop Quantization

Click the Preferences icon (gear icon) in the Toolbar to open the Preferences window. Select the Performance tab. Locate the Cue/Loop Quantization setting under the Playback section.

03

Set your beat division

Click the Cue/Loop Quantization dropdown and choose your desired value: Off, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, or 4 beats. Choose 1 beat for standard snapping, or a finer division like 1/4 or 1/8 if you want more precise placement. Close Preferences when done.

04

Verify cue and loop accuracy

Set a hot cue by clicking a performance pad (1-8) at the desired location and confirm it lands on the beat position you intended. If a cue snaps to the wrong beat, your beatgrid may need manual correction in the Grid Edit Controls before quantization will work reliably.

The catch

Quantize is only as accurate as the underlying beatgrid: if the grid is drifting or placed on the wrong downbeat, every snapped cue and loop will be off by the same amount.

Where Vibes fits

Accurate beatgrids before the track ever loads.

Vibes analyzes your library on your device and builds downbeat-locked beatgrids during prep, so by the time a track lands in Engine DJ the grid is already correct and quantize works on the first cue you set.

See how it works
BPM detection and downbeat-locked beatgrid built during track analysis, before you touch Engine DJ
Key analysis (Skey neural net, Camelot-aware) alongside BPM so harmonic and rhythmic prep happen in one pass
Export writes directly into Engine DJ's m.db database, so beatgrid data is there when you open the software
Auto cue points and section markers (intro, drop, outro) set during prep give quantize-ready reference points from the start

Organize in Vibes, export to Engine DJ.

Your playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points travel back to the gear you play on, so nothing you do in Vibes is locked away.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

No. Quantize is a playback control inside Engine DJ and Vibes has no role in toggling it. What Vibes does is analyze your library beforehand so the beatgrid Engine DJ relies on is accurate, which makes quantize actually useful when you flip it on.
The beatgrid is misaligned. Open the Edit Grid view in Engine DJ and drag the grid marker to the correct downbeat, then re-set the cue. If you prep tracks in Vibes first, the downbeat-locked beatgrid exported to Engine DJ reduces how often this happens.
Yes. In Engine DJ 4.x, quantize applies to both hot cue placement and loop in/out points. With quantize on, rolling loops and manual loops both snap to the beat division you have selected.
