Vibes is live
Migrate · Spotify to Rekordbox

Move from Spotify to Rekordbox.

Spotify tracks are streams you rent, not files you own: rekordbox 7 can play them live from a Spotify Premium account, but they cannot be stored offline, exported to a USB drive, or used in EXPORT mode. Here is exactly what carries across, what gets lost, and how to bring your whole library over without starting from scratch.

A DJ library organized in Vibes with BPM, key, and vibe tags intact after moving from Spotify to Rekordbox

Bring your collection across without losing your work.

Spotify inside rekordbox is playback, not a transfer. Logging in with a Spotify Premium account puts the catalog and your own playlists in the browser and lets you mix up to four Spotify tracks at once, but every one of them stays a stream: nothing lands on your drive, nothing works offline, nothing reaches a USB stick. Rebuilding the playlist properly means naming the tracks and buying them as files. Rekordbox treats Spotify as a live playback source in PERFORMANCE mode, so nothing from it becomes part of a collection you can carry into a booth.

What transfers from Spotify to Rekordbox.

CapabilityCarriesWhat happens
Audio filesStreamed tracks never become files on your drive. There is nothing to move, so each one has to be bought or re-sourced.
PlaylistsYour playlists appear inside rekordbox while you are logged in, and from ver. 7.2.16 streamed tracks can be added to rekordbox playlists, but those entries stay streams and cannot be exported.
Key & BPMRekordbox analyzes a streamed track when it is loaded to a deck, but the manual Analyze Track option is not offered for it and none of the values leave rekordbox.
Hot cuesMemory cues can be set on a streamed track inside rekordbox, but streaming tracks are excluded from USB EXPORT and LINK EXPORT, so no cue reaches a player.
BeatgridsGrids exist only for the live stream, and rekordbox warns that grids and cues can shift when you change Streaming Audio Quality. Grids that last belong to files.
Star ratingsEditing track information is not available on a streaming track, so ratings start fresh on the files you buy.
Comments & tagsSame restriction: track information cannot be edited on a streaming track, so comments, tags, and colors only apply to files in your own collection.

Checked against the rekordbox 7 streaming FAQ and the rekordbox Streaming Service Usage Guide: streaming tracks are excluded from USB EXPORT, LINK EXPORT, recording, capture, the sampler, and track-information editing. Rekordbox treats Spotify as a live playback source in PERFORMANCE mode, so nothing from it becomes part of a collection you can carry into a booth.

Moving from Spotify to Rekordbox, step by step.

A streaming playlist has no export button, and no DJ app can create one for it. The honest path is a rebuild: take the list out, source the files, and let rekordbox build the DJ layer on top of music you actually own.

01

Write the playlist down before you rebuild it

Spotify gives you no way to take the audio out, and no converter can turn a stream into a file you own without breaking Spotify's terms. What you can take is the list. Work through the playlist and record artist, title, and the exact version or remix for every track you actually play, not every track you once saved. That list is the only thing that genuinely crosses over.

02

Buy the files in a format rekordbox reads

Source each track from a download store as a file you own. Rekordbox 7 reads mp3, AAC, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, and FLAC, so any normal purchase works, and lossless is worth it for anything you will play loud. Expect gaps: extended mixes, edits, and older bootlegs that sit happily in a streaming catalog are often not sold anywhere.

03

Import the folder and let rekordbox analyze it

Put the purchases in one folder and add that folder to your rekordbox Collection. Open Preferences, go to the Analysis tab, and set Track Analysis, then Auto Analysis, to Enable so BPM, key, and beatgrids are calculated as tracks come in. This is the layer streaming never gave you: on a Spotify track the manual Analyze Track option is not offered at all.

04

Export a drive in EXPORT mode and check it

Switch rekordbox from PERFORMANCE to EXPORT with the mode selector in the upper-left corner, plug in your USB drive, and export the rebuilt playlist to it. Rekordbox's own limitations list excludes streaming tracks from USB EXPORT and LINK EXPORT, so the drive proves the point: only files you own reach the players. Load a few of them on the hardware before the gig.

Be clear about what this costs: it is a rebuild, not a transfer, and every track you keep has to be bought again as a file. Anything no download store sells simply will not come across. The honest way to use the integration is as a place to audition tracks, with the files you own as the library you actually play from.

The cleaner path

One library, every app.

Vibes works on files you own, so it has nothing to say until the purchases land. From that point it does the part a rebuilt playlist needs: it imports the folder, analyzes BPM, key, energy, and track sections, finds duplicates you bought twice, and exports playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points into Rekordbox. It does not stream, it cannot import from Spotify, and it is not a DJ app.

See the DJ Library
Import the folder your purchases land in, plain folders included
Analyze BPM, key, energy, and track sections across the whole rebuild
Catch duplicates before the same track lands twice
Export playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points into Rekordbox

Organize once, export to Rekordbox.

Your playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points travel to the gear you play on, so nothing you do in Vibes is locked away.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

For practice at home, yes, that is what the integration exists for. For a paid gig, no. Spotify's own DJ integration article states that public performance, including playing mixes in clubs, venues, events, or livestreams, is not permitted under its terms. Rekordbox enforces part of that in software: recording is unavailable while a streaming track is loaded, and streaming tracks cannot be exported to a USB drive at all.
Yes. Since September 2025 on Mac and Windows, logging in with a Spotify Premium account puts the catalog and your playlists in rekordbox's Media Browser, with the mode selector set to PERFORMANCE, and you can mix up to four streamed tracks at once. What you cannot do is keep them: no offline storage, no USB or LINK EXPORT, no recording, no sampler, no STEMS. See what does carry in the rekordbox integration guide.
No on the Spotify side, yes on the rekordbox side. The integration needs a Spotify Premium subscription; logging in with an account that does not have it loads no tracks. Rekordbox's own Free plan is enough to use the integration, and from ver. 7.2.16 streamed tracks can be added to rekordbox playlists on that plan too. Availability is also regional, so a Premium account in an unsupported country still will not connect.
Inside rekordbox, Serato, and djay, yes, with Spotify Premium and a live internet connection. Standalone gear cannot: rekordbox excludes streaming tracks from USB EXPORT and LINK EXPORT, so a CDJ or XDJ reading a drive will never see them, and one account plays on one device at a time. For anything beyond practice, build the set from files you own and organize it properly.
