Bring your collection across without losing your work.
Switching from Engine DJ to Rekordbox, or running both, means moving your collection without losing the cues, grids, and tags you have built up. Rekordbox has no Engine DJ importer; a tool-generated rekordbox xml is the bridge, and Engine keeps its data per drive.
What transfers from Engine DJ to Rekordbox.
| Capability | Carries | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Audio files | Your tracks move with the library and the files are never modified. | |
| Playlists & crates | Folders and playlists are rebuilt in Rekordbox. | |
| Key & BPM | Analyzed values carry across, or are re-analyzed cleanly and accurately. | |
| Hot cues | Hot and memory cues carry; export to USB to use them on CDJs. | |
| Beatgrids | Beatgrids carry so your tracks stay locked in time. | |
| Star ratings | Star ratings carry into Rekordbox. | |
| Comments & tags | Comments carry; map your tags to My Tag for full filtering. |
Using a metadata-aware library tool. A manual drag-and-drop rebuild loses everything except the audio files. Rekordbox has no Engine DJ importer; a tool-generated rekordbox xml is the bridge, and Engine keeps its data per drive.
Moving from Engine DJ to Rekordbox, step by step.
Rekordbox cannot read an Engine DJ library. One Engine-specific wrinkle before the usual tool path: Engine keeps its database in an Engine Library folder on each drive, so point your library tool at the drive that actually holds your collection.
Read your Engine DJ library with a library tool
Rekordbox cannot read Engine DJ data itself, so a library tool does the translation: point it at your Engine DJ collection and let it read playlists, cues, grids, and tags.
Generate a rekordbox xml
Export a rekordbox xml file from the tool. The format officially carries playlists with folder hierarchy, hot and memory cues, loops, beatgrids, ratings, colors, and comments. It does not carry My Tags or smart playlists.
Connect the xml in Rekordbox
In Rekordbox, open Preferences, go to Advanced, then Database, and set the rekordbox xml Imported Library to your file. Enable the xml tree in Preferences under View, then Layout, so it appears in the browser.
Pull it into your Collection and verify
Drag tracks and playlists from the rekordbox xml node into your Collection and Playlists, then spot-check cues, grids, and keys. Rekordbox holds up to sixteen hot cues and ten memory cues per track, so nothing from these sources should truncate.
Engine's eight hot cues fit easily inside Rekordbox's sixteen slots. The thing to watch is drives: a library split across a laptop drive and performance USBs means converting from the right Engine Library folder, or merging first.
The cleaner path
One library, every app.
Vibes imports your Engine DJ library and exports it straight into Rekordbox, keeping playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points intact, so the move does not mean starting over. Keep one organized library and send it wherever you play.
See the DJ LibraryOrganize once, export to Rekordbox.
Your playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points travel to the gear you play on, so nothing you do in Vibes is locked away.
