We did not score the apps on total feature count. Bass music asks specific things of DJ software: beatgrids that survive tracks recorded live or ripped from vinyl, tempo handling that copes with two tempos at once, and stem separation that holds up when a bassline is the loudest thing in the mix. Features that do not touch those questions were left out.

Rollers recorded live, vinyl rips, and bootlegs rarely hold one tempo. You want either grids that follow the drift on their own or markers you can drag by hand. Everything else in a bass mix rests on that.

Nobody publishes an audited count, so treat any single answer with suspicion. The three names that dominate club booths and DJ forums are rekordbox, Serato DJ Pro, and Traktor Pro. rekordbox gets named most often because it is made by AlphaTheta, the company behind the players installed in most clubs. For bass music all three are capable, and your gear decides it, not the genre. More in our guide for bass DJs.
Two different tools get called music software. For playing out, most DJs use rekordbox, Serato DJ Pro, Traktor Pro 4, or VirtualDJ, which is the list compared above. For writing bass music, they use a DAW instead, and Ableton Live and FL Studio are the names that come up most in drum and bass and dubstep circles. This page only covers the playing-out half. Neither is better outright; they are built for different endings. rekordbox suits you when a set ends up on a USB stick in a club player, and its free plan already covers library work, STEMS, and DVS control. Start with whatever came with your controller, then keep it free as long as you can. Serato DJ Lite costs nothing and upgrades into DJ Pro later. Mixxx is free and open source on Windows, macOS, and Linux, with four decks, BPM and key detection, and beat loops built in. rekordbox also has a free plan. It is shorthand for phrasing. Most dance tracks are built in blocks of 32 beats, or eight bars, and the big changes land at the start of a new block. Count 32 beats and you know roughly where the next drop, breakdown, or switch arrives. Bass music leans on this hard, since a dubstep or drum and bass drop almost always lands on a phrase boundary. Mix in and out on those boundaries and your transitions stop sounding accidental.
Not with Spotify itself. No major DJ app offers it as a playable source: rekordbox's own streaming FAQ names SoundCloud Go+/DJ, Beatport Streaming, Beatsource, and TIDAL, and Spotify is not on that list.
