How to ยท Rekordbox

Relocate missing files in Rekordbox.

Moving or renaming audio files breaks the links Rekordbox relies on. Here is how to relink them and keep your library clean.

Relocate missing files in Rekordbox, step by step.

Rekordbox marks tracks with a missing-file indicator when it cannot find them at the stored path. The built-in relocation tools let you point it at the new location without losing your cue points, loops, or playlist memberships.

01

Find tracks marked as missing

Open Rekordbox and look for tracks with an orange exclamation mark icon in your collection or playlists. This icon appears when the file has been moved, renamed, deleted, or is on a drive that is not currently connected. Plug in any external drives before starting so Rekordbox can scan them.

02

Use Relocate or Auto Relocate on a single track

Right-click any missing track and the context menu will show both [Relocate] and [Auto Relocate]. Choose [Auto Relocate] to let Rekordbox automatically search your configured search folders for that file. Choose [Relocate] to open a file browser and navigate manually to the new location, then select the correct audio file and click [Open]. If you moved an entire folder, Rekordbox may offer to search that folder for other missing files from the same location. Both options restore the track's cue points and metadata once the file is relinked. You can also select multiple missing tracks and right-click to run [Auto Relocate] on them all at once, or access [Auto Relocate] from the [Track] menu at the top of the screen.

03

Run a bulk search using Missing File Manager

Go to File > Display All Missing Files. The Missing File Manager window opens and lists all missing tracks. Before clicking [Auto Relocate], make sure you have added the relevant folders under Preferences > Advanced > Database > Auto Relocate Search Folders by enabling the [Specified user folders] (also labelled [User specified folders] in some versions) checkbox and adding the folders there. Then click [Auto Relocate] in the Missing File Manager to have Rekordbox automatically search those configured folders and relink any tracks it recognises by filename. This is faster than relinking one track at a time.

04

Verify the relinked tracks and tidy up

After relinking, check that the orange exclamation mark icons are gone and play a few tracks to confirm the waveforms and cue points loaded correctly. If any tracks could not be matched automatically, relink them manually using the single-track [Relocate] option, or use the [Delete] button in Missing File Manager to remove them from the library if the files no longer exist.

The catch

Rekordbox can only relink a track if the file still exists somewhere accessible. If you deleted the original file, the metadata and cue points cannot be recovered from inside Rekordbox itself.

Where Vibes fits

Your prep work survives file moves when Vibes is in the loop.

Vibes imports your Rekordbox library and stores your vibe tags, analysis, and crate organisation against each track. If you move files and re-import, your prep layer in Vibes remains intact and can be exported back to Rekordbox once you have relinked the files there.

See how it works
Import your Rekordbox library via master.db or legacy XML, pulling in all your existing crates and metadata
Vibe tags, categories, and Set Designer work live in Vibes independently of where files sit on disk
Re-export to Rekordbox after relinking: Vibes writes playlists, cue points, and ratings back into master.db via SQLCipher
Watched Folders auto-import newly added tracks into Vibes so fresh files get tagged and exported without manual steps

Organize in Vibes, export to Rekordbox.

Your playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points travel back to the gear you play on, so nothing you do in Vibes is locked away.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

No. Vibes is a library prep and organisation tool, not a file manager or performance app. Relinking broken paths is done inside Rekordbox. Vibes complements the process by keeping your vibe tags and prep work safe so nothing is lost when you move files and re-import.
Yes, as long as you relink the files in Rekordbox first and then export from Vibes. Vibes writes cue points back into the Rekordbox database when the cue-points export toggle is enabled, so your points are restored alongside your vibe-based playlists.
If you re-import your Rekordbox library into Vibes after relinking, Vibes picks up the updated paths. Tracks you had already tagged retain their vibe assignments, so you do not have to retag anything after moving your files.
