Dual Mono vs True Stereo

Being direct about what this tool does: it copies your one mono channel onto a left and a right channel, producing what is called dual mono. Both channels carry the exact same waveform. That fixes real problems, a file that only plays out of one speaker, or software, hardware, or an export target that flatly requires two channels, because now there are two channels and they are both present. What it does not do is invent stereo width. True stereo separation needs a difference between the left and right signal: a short delay between channels (the Haas effect), a stereo reverb or chorus effect, or two microphones capturing slightly different positions in a room. None of that exists in a single mono recording, so no algorithm can pull it out afterward without adding artificial effects of its own. If you want your mono source to sound wide, that is a production step in a DAW, not a file-conversion step.

When You Actually Need This

The common case is a voiceover, phone recording, or old sample that was captured or exported in mono, and it now needs to sit in a session, video timeline, or upload pipeline that expects stereo input. Rather than fight an error message or a silent channel, convert it once here and the file behaves like any other stereo asset downstream, with both channels present and identical.
