How it works

Only the Tag Block Changes, Never the Audio

An MP3 is two things in one file: a small metadata block (the ID3 tag) and the MPEG audio stream. When you drop a file, the editor parses the existing tag, shows every field, and lets you change any of it. On download it builds a fresh tag from your edits and prepends it to the original, untouched audio stream. Nothing is decoded or re-encoded, so a 320 kbps file stays exactly a 320 kbps file, saving takes a fraction of a second, and the result is byte-identical audio with new metadata. Files with no tag at all work too: the fields simply start empty and you tag from scratch.

Which Fields DJ Software Actually Reads

rekordbox, Serato, and Traktor all import title, artist, album, genre, and comment straight from the ID3 tag, and most DJs lean on genre and comment for crate organization. Two frames matter specifically for DJs: TBPM stores the tempo and TKEY stores the initial key (musical notation like Am, or Camelot notation like 8A). DJ software will usually run its own analysis, but a correct TBPM/TKEY pair gives you sortable, searchable values everywhere the file goes, including players that never analyze. Why the Output Is ID3v2.3

ID3v2.3 is the most widely supported tag version in existence: rekordbox, Serato, Traktor, iTunes, car stereos, and standalone players all read it reliably, which is not true of the newer v2.4 or the ancient v1. Whatever your file arrives with, a v1 tag, a v2 tag, both, or none, the editor strips the old tags and writes one clean ID3v2.3 block. That deduplication alone fixes a lot of "my tags show up differently in different apps" problems, because there is no longer a second, conflicting tag for software to pick up.
