Find and remove duplicate tracks in Rekordbox, step by step.

Rekordbox 7 includes a built-in duplicate management tool called Merge Duplicate Files. It compares tracks by Title and Artist, then presents matches in the Duplicated File Manager screen where you select a representative file to keep. The feature was added in version 7.0.4 and improved in 7.2.8.

01

Open the Duplicated File Manager

In Rekordbox 7, access the Merge Duplicate Files feature to open the Duplicated File Manager screen. Note: the exact top-level menu path to launch this screen is not confirmed in official documentation and should be verified in the running app. Rekordbox automatically detects duplicated files and lists them in this screen. Detection is based on matching Title and Artist, not file path.

02

Review the results and select a representative file

In the Duplicated File Manager, review the grouped duplicate entries. Open the Select Representative File screen and choose which copy to keep as the representative file. Consider which copy has fully analyzed BPM and key data, has cue points set, and lives in your primary music folder.

03

Merge to remove the unwanted copies

Select the tracks you want to consolidate and press the Merge button on the Select Representative File screen. Rekordbox removes all non-representative copies from its library. The actual audio files on your computer are NOT deleted - only the library entries are removed. Back up your library before merging, as the action replaces all merged file information with the representative file's data.

04

Re-analyze remaining tracks if needed

After removing duplicates, select any tracks showing missing or outdated BPM and key data, right-click, and choose Analyze Track. This ensures every remaining track has consistent metadata before you export to a USB or sync to a device via Export mode.

The catch

Rekordbox's Merge Duplicate Files feature matches on Title and Artist, so tracks that are true audio duplicates but have different metadata (different titles or artist spellings) will not be detected. Renamed or re-tagged copies of the same audio file can slip through undetected. Additionally, audio fingerprinting is not used, so different edits or remixes with the same title and artist could be incorrectly flagged as duplicates.

Where Vibes fits

Use Vibes to prep your library before you deduplicate.

Vibes does not have a one-click duplicate finder, but it surfaces tracks missing BPM or key analysis so you can clean up analysis gaps alongside your deduplication pass in Rekordbox.

See how it works
Filter All Songs by 'missing BPM' or 'missing key' to find tracks that need analysis before you decide which duplicate to keep
BPM and key columns from Vibes's neural-net analysis (Skey) give you a second opinion when Rekordbox values look wrong
Tag duplicates you want to review with a temporary Vibe so they surface together across your whole library
After deduplication, export your cleaned-up library back to Rekordbox via direct master.db write, keeping cue points and ratings intact

Organize in Vibes, export to Rekordbox.

Your playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points travel back to the gear you play on, so nothing you do in Vibes is locked away.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

No. Vibes does not have a built-in duplicate detector. Use Rekordbox's native Track > Detect Duplicate Tracks tool for that job. Vibes complements it by helping you identify tracks with incomplete analysis data so you choose the right copy to keep.
Yes. If the track you delete appears in one or more playlists, Rekordbox will warn you before removal. Review playlist membership in the duplicate panel before confirming the deletion so you do not leave empty slots in important crates.
Not reliably. The built-in finder matches primarily on file path and title metadata, so a renamed or relocated copy of the same audio file can pass undetected. For deeper deduplication based on audio fingerprinting, a dedicated tool such as Duplicate File Finder or a service like Lexicon is a better fit.
