Find and remove duplicate tracks in Rekordbox.

Rekordbox 7 has a built-in Merge Duplicate Files tool that groups the duplicate tracks in your Collection and keeps one copy of each. If your version does not have it, you sort the Collection by title and delete the extra copies by hand. Do the cleanup before a big gig prep session and your crates stay tight.

Find and remove duplicate tracks in Rekordbox, step by step.

Rekordbox 7 includes a built-in duplicate management tool called Merge Duplicate Files. It groups tracks that share the same Title and Artist, then presents the groups in the Duplicated File Manager window (File > Display All Duplicated Files) where you select a representative file to keep. The feature arrived in version 7.0.4, so older installs need an update first.

Open the Duplicated File Manager

In Rekordbox 7, click File and select Display All Duplicated Files. The Duplicated File Manager window opens and lists the tracks in your Collection that share the same Title and Artist, in groups. If your install does not offer the menu item, update Rekordbox first, or sort the Collection by the Title column, spot the repeated entries, and remove the extra copies by hand.

Review the results and select a representative file

In the Duplicated File Manager, review each group of duplicate entries. Open the Select Representative File screen and choose which copy to keep as the representative file. Prefer the copy that has fully analyzed BPM and key data, has your cue points set, and lives in your primary music folder.

Merge to delete the unwanted copies

Select the tracks you want to consolidate and press the Merge button on the Select Representative File screen. Rekordbox deletes all non-representative copies from its Library. The audio files on your computer are NOT deleted, only the library entries are removed. Back up your library before merging, because all information from the merged files is replaced by the representative file's information.

Re-analyze remaining tracks if needed

After removing duplicates, select any tracks showing missing or outdated BPM and key data, right-click, and choose Analyze Track. This ensures every remaining track has consistent metadata before you export to a USB or sync to a device via Export mode.

The catch

Merge Duplicate Files matches on the Title and Artist tags, not on the audio itself. Copies of the same audio with different titles or artist spellings can slip through, and different edits or remixes tagged identically can land in the same group, so check every group before you merge. Merging also only cleans the Rekordbox library: the extra audio files stay on your drive until you delete them in Finder or File Explorer.

Yes, if you want to run that pass before Rekordbox does. Actions, then Find duplicates, runs three passes: exact file, then metadata, then audio similarity, marks a keeper in each group, and removes or trashes the rest on your say-so. Do it in Vibes, then export the clean library into Rekordbox, or use Rekordbox 7's own Merge Duplicate Files tool if you would rather run the cleanup there instead.
In Rekordbox 7, click File > Display All Duplicated Files to open the Duplicated File Manager, pick the representative file in each group, and click Merge. Rekordbox drops the extra library entries and keeps the representative one. On an older version without that tool, sort the Collection by Title, select each extra copy, right-click, and choose Remove from Collection. Neither method deletes the audio file from your drive, so delete unwanted files in Finder or File Explorer afterward.
Plan for it. The Rekordbox manual documents Remove from Collection and Remove from Playlist as separate actions, but it does not spell out what happens to playlist entries when a track leaves the Collection or gets merged away. Before you merge or remove anything, note which copy sits in your important playlists and keep that one. A quick pass through your gig crates after cleanup catches any empty slots before they matter.
Not reliably. Merge Duplicate Files groups tracks with the same Title and Artist rather than comparing the audio, so a renamed or re-tagged copy of the same audio file can pass undetected. A file that was moved without re-importing shows a [!] mark as a missing file instead, which you fix with Relocate rather than remove. For deeper deduplication based on the audio itself, a library tool such as Lexicon, whose Find Duplicates compares audio signatures, is a better fit.
