Record your set in VirtualDJ.

Three causes cover nearly every case. The track is rented: files streamed from an online catalog or a record pool carry DRM, and VirtualDJ refuses with "Not allowed to record track with DRM". The only way to record on VirtualDJ without DRM stopping you is to play files you own, so record music in VirtualDJ from your own drive instead. Second, you pressed the REC beside the master VU meter, which grabs a sample. Third, you run an external mixer with no Record Loopback line. The recording lands as one long file. If you saved a cue sheet alongside it, the CUE splitter cuts it back into individual tracks.

To record a mix in VirtualDJ, set the format and file name in the Record section first, then press REC on the MASTER panel and play your tracks. If you would rather not depend on the software at all, send the mixer's record output to a separate recorder or audio interface. The same task in the other apps is covered for Serato, Rekordbox, Traktor and Engine DJ.

It depends which song. Searches for how to record song in VirtualDJ 2021 usually mean one of two things: keeping the mix you just played, or keeping a streamed track for offline use. The mix is saved by the Record section, at the path you set there. A streamed track is saved by right-clicking it and choosing Download to cache, which puts it in the Offline cache folder. Those cached files refresh their DRM authorizations every 30 days, and they still cannot be recorded.

Point the browser on the left at your music folders, drag a track onto a deck and press play. The mixer in the middle holds the volume controls and the crossfader, and its center panel switches between the audio mixer, VIDEO, SCRATCH and MASTER. Analyze your tracks so BPM and key are ready, set your cue points, then mix. The browser side is covered in the library guide.

On a laptop-only setup, the six steps above are the whole answer. With an external mixer you need a Record Loopback line. Wire the mixer's Record Out or Booth Out into a line input or a multi channel soundcard. In the Audio Setup, choose SEPARATE DECKS under OUTPUT and the card under HARDWARE, then add a source with the LINE INPUT button in the INPUTS menu, select Record from the source list and click APPLY.

Yes. The license comparison on virtualdj.com marks "Can record audio or video to files" as included on the free tier, exactly as it is on Home, Pro and Business. What the free and Home tiers do not get is clean audio output, so the VirtualDJ audio sample lands in whatever you record. Free also rules out USB and MIDI controllers and paid work, so a Pro license is what buys you a clean file.

Set the microphone up first. In the Audio Setup, choose MICROPHONE from the INPUTS options, select the sound card the mic is plugged into and click APPLY. Then enable it with ON in the microphone section of the MASTER panel and set MIC VOL. Two options decide the rest: recordMicrophone set to no leaves the voice out entirely, and microphoneToMaster set to no keeps the mic in the recording without sending it to the master output.

Choose a video format instead of an audio one. In the Record section, pick WEBM, the default video format, or MP4 from the same drop down, then record exactly as you would audio. The Options tab adds recordVideoResolution, recordVideoFps and recordVideoCodec under the Record group. Recording at 60 fps also needs videoFps set to 60, and the h265 and av1 codecs are not available on all hardware.

Version 7 has its own layout. Click the Record tab in the browser area and choose Record Audio, one of four methods there alongside Burn CD, Broadcast and Record Movie. Click Config to set the path, tick Auto-Start if you want it to begin with the first track, choose WAV or MP3 and a bitrate, then use Start Recording and Stop Recording. Not since version 8. That release put the record controls in the MASTER panel and they have not moved since, so how to record in VirtualDJ 8 is the same story as on the current build: set the file, press REC.
