Record your set in Traktor Pro, step by step.

Traktor Pro 4 has a built-in Audio Recorder (called the Mix Recorder in Preferences) that writes your mix to a WAV or MP3 file without any extra software. Here is how to set it up and start capturing.

01

Open the Audio Recorder panel

In Traktor Pro 4, click the tape (cassette) icon in the Global Section at the top of the interface to display the Audio Recorder panel. The Global Section is the central header area containing the Master Control, FX panels, and Audio Recorder. If the panel is not visible, right-click the Global Section or go to Preferences and set the right-hand panel slot to show the Audio Recorder instead of FX Unit 2. You can also enable the Global Section under Global Settings if the entire header is hidden.

02

Set your recording path and format

Go to Preferences > Mix Recorder > File > Directory to choose where Traktor saves your recordings. This is separate from the music library path under File Management. In the same Mix Recorder section, you can choose WAV for lossless quality or MP3 if you need smaller files. You can also set a filename prefix and a maximum file size for automatic splits.

03

Select your recording source

In Preferences > Mix Recorder, set Source to Internal to capture Traktor's master output (internal mixer mode). If you are recording a live hardware input through an external mixer, set Source to External and choose the appropriate external input routing channel you have configured in Preferences > Input Routing.

04

Hit record and monitor your levels

Press the Record button in the Audio Recorder panel to start capturing. Watch the level meter inside the panel and use the Audio Recorder's own GAIN knob (not the Master Gain) to keep peaks out of the red. Press Record again to stop and save the file. To split into a new file without stopping playback, press the CUT button instead. Traktor saves the file automatically to the directory you set in Mix Recorder preferences.

The catch

Traktor's Audio Recorder captures audio well, but it gives you no help planning which tracks to play, in what order, or how they will flow together before you hit record.

Where Vibes fits

Walk into every recording session with a finished plan.

Vibes does not record audio, but Set Designer lets you map out your entire set before you open Traktor. Sequence tracks by BPM, key, and vibe, then export the playlist directly into Traktor so your crates are waiting when you press record.

See how it works
Set Designer canvas: arrange tracks visually, check BPM flow and Camelot key compatibility across every transition before you record
Vibe and energy tagging: know exactly which tracks match the energy arc you want, from opener to peak time to closer
Track Pairs: save proven transitions so you can repeat them confidently in your recorded take
Export to Traktor NML: write your planned set as a playlist directly into Traktor so you are not hunting for tracks mid-recording

Organize in Vibes, export to Traktor Pro.

Your playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points travel back to the gear you play on, so nothing you do in Vibes is locked away.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

No. Vibes is a library prep and organization tool, not a live mixer or recorder. You still need Traktor Pro 4 to actually capture the audio. Vibes helps you plan and sequence your set beforehand so the recording session itself goes smoothly.
Traktor saves recordings to the path you choose in the Audio Recorder panel, or to the default directory set under Preferences > File Management > Directories. Files are written as WAV or MP3 depending on the format you selected before hitting record.
You can start and stop the Audio Recorder at any point during your session. Each time you stop and restart, Traktor creates a new file. This lets you capture individual segments or split a long recording into separate takes without leaving Traktor.
