How to · Traktor

Show Camelot keys in Traktor.

Traktor analyzes key but does not show the Camelot codes most harmonic mixers use. Here is how DJs work around that, and how to get Camelot on every track cleanly.

Track analysis showing key in Camelot notation

Getting Camelot into Traktor.

Traktor detects key and color-codes it to the wheel, but it defaults to Open Key or musical notation and does not natively display Camelot codes in the Key column.

01

Turn on key analysis

Make sure tracks are analyzed for key so each one has a detected value and the color-coded wheel position.

02

Choose your notation

In Preferences > Analyze Options, set the 'Displayed in Traktor' drop-down to your preferred notation. The options are Musical, Musical (all sharps), and Open Key. Camelot codes are not available in this column.

03

Map Open Key to Camelot

If you think in Camelot, keep a conversion handy, since Open Key numbering differs from Camelot (e.g., 1A in Camelot is 6m in Open Key). To display Camelot codes in the browser, set 'Written to File Tags' to 'Key Text' in Preferences > Analyze Options, then right-click the browser column headers and enable the 'Key Text' column. Mixed In Key also writes its results to this column.

04

Sort harmonically

Engage Key Lock on the master deck so Traktor highlights compatible tracks in the browser using color-coding, then sort to group related keys.

The catch

There is no clean way to make Traktor show Camelot in the Key column, so DJs convert in their head or hack codes into a comment field, which is exactly the friction this guide exists to remove.

The faster way

Camelot on every track.

Vibes keys every track and places it on the Camelot wheel directly, then exports the key back into Traktor, so harmonic mixing does not depend on converting Open Key in your head.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

Not in the Key column directly. Traktor offers Open Key and musical notation. DJs who think in Camelot either convert in their head or paste Camelot codes into a text field like Comment2 to display them.
Both are wheel-based systems for harmonic mixing, but the numbering differs, so an Open Key value does not match the Camelot code for the same key. That mismatch is what trips DJs up in Traktor.
Vibes keys every track in Camelot and places it on the wheel, then exports the key back into Traktor, so you get the Camelot codes harmonic mixing relies on without any conversion.
