Analyzing tracks in Rekordbox.

Rekordbox analyzes tracks to produce BPM, beat grid, waveform, key, and phrase structure (intro, verse, chorus, outro). You can analyze on import or on demand.

01

Choose your analysis mode

In Preferences, open the Analysis category and select the Track Analysis tab. Under BeatGrid analysis, pick Normal for steady-tempo tracks or Dynamic for tracks that change tempo. A High Precision BeatGrid toggle is also available here for greater accuracy at the cost of longer processing time. In the Track Analysis Setting section, choose which values to detect: BPM/Grid, Key, Phrase, and Vocal.

02

Analyze on import or manually

If Auto Analysis is set to Enable in Preferences > Analysis > Track Analysis, Rekordbox analyzes tracks automatically as you add them to your Collection. To analyze manually, right-click a selection and choose Analyze Track, or use the Track menu in the menu bar and select Analyze Track.

03

Check the grid

Load a track and open the GRID panel (click the GRID button below the CUE/LOOP button in Export mode). Confirm the beat grid lines up with the transients in the waveform. If the downbeat is off, use the Set First Beat function to correct its position so syncing and quantized cues are accurate.

04

Re-analyze problem tracks

If BPM reads as half or double, re-analyze with a corrected BPM range set in Preferences, or correct the BPM value by hand in the track list. If the key looks wrong, re-analyze with Key detection enabled, or edit the key field manually.

The catch

Analysis can be slow on a large library. It covers BPM, key, beat grid, waveform, and phrase structure (intro, verse, chorus, outro). It does not assess subjective qualities like energy level, mood, or whether tracks will work together in a set.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

Normal analysis assumes a steady tempo and is fast and accurate for most modern tracks. Dynamic analysis handles tracks that change tempo, like live recordings or older records, at the cost of speed.
Analysis sometimes locks onto a half-time or double-time feel. Re-analyze within the correct BPM range or correct the value by hand. Vibes lets you edit BPM and exports the corrected value back.
On top of BPM, key, and waveform, Vibes produces an energy curve and structural cue points for sections like the intro, drop, and breakdown, which it can export back into Rekordbox.
