Edit track info in Traktor.

Traktor writes your edits into its own Collection first. Whether they also reach the audio file is set by Tag writing mode on the File Management page in the Preferences. Do not write any tags to files keeps everything in the Collection, and Only write custom Traktor tags writes Traktor's own tags only. Pick Write all tags to files when another program has to read the same tags. For one stubborn file you would rather fix outside the library, the browser MP3 tagger writes the tags directly, then Traktor picks the change up on the next scan.

Inline editing is switched off. Open the Preferences, select Browser Details, and tick Allow Inline Editing in List Window under Editing. Native Instruments ships that switch so an accidental click cannot rewrite a tag during a live situation, which is why plenty of DJs keep it off while playing. If you would rather leave it off, right-click the track and choose Edit instead: the Edit dialog works either way.

Select the tracks in the Track List, right-click, and choose Edit. In the Edit dialog, a checked box means the selected tracks already share that value, and that whatever you type into the field will be saved to all of them. An unchecked box means the values differ. Tick the box before typing to change a field globally, or use Previous and Next to walk the selection one track at a time.

Genre is one of the metadata properties Traktor stores for every track, so both routes work. Click the Genre field in the Track List and type, or right-click the track and choose Edit. Inside the Edit dialog, use the drop-down in the field to pick a genre already stored in your Collection, which keeps your spelling consistent instead of creating a near-duplicate. Cover art is not part of the Edit dialog. Right-click a track, or a selection of tracks, in the Track List and choose Import Cover, then pick a .jpeg file on your computer and confirm. Traktor stores the artwork within the track files themselves. Delete Cover, on the same context menu, removes the artwork from every track you had selected.

It can, and Tag writing mode decides how far it goes. Only write custom Traktor tags limits Traktor to its own tags, while Write all tags to files lets it write your full tag set into the file. In the Collection.nml file inside Traktor's Root folder, which is listed and changeable under Directories on the File Management page in the Preferences. The Collection is saved when you close Traktor, or on demand by right-clicking the Track Collection folder in the Browser Tree and selecting Save Collection. A copy also lands in the Backup folder on every close, ready for Import another Collection.

Only if Traktor wrote them into the audio files, and even then the other app picks the change up only when it reads the file again, because each one keeps its own database.
