Vibes is live
How to · Rekordbox

Use Spotify in Rekordbox.

With a Spotify Premium account you can stream and mix Spotify's catalog inside rekordbox 7 on Mac and Windows, and inside rekordbox for iOS and Android. The detail most guides leave out: those tracks stay online only, cannot be exported to a USB storage device, and cannot be used with STEMS.

Streaming covers practice and crate building. The files you own are the ones that travel to a gig.

Use Spotify in Rekordbox, step by step.

rekordbox does not import Spotify files, it streams them live from your Spotify Premium account. Here is how to connect Spotify to rekordbox on Mac, Windows, iOS or Android, and what stays off limits once the account is linked.

01

Update rekordbox before anything else

Playback from Spotify arrived in rekordbox for Mac and Windows in September 2025, and in rekordbox for iOS and Android in December 2025. Version 7.2.16 added Spotify tracks in [Collection], Spotify tracks in rekordbox playlists, and Automix with Spotify tracks. rekordbox and Spotify link through your account, not through a file transfer, so an older build simply will not offer the service.

02

Log in to Spotify from the rekordbox browser

Find Spotify in the tree on the left side of the rekordbox browser, where rekordbox lists its music sources, and click it. Log in with a Spotify Premium account and approve the access request. Spotify's own support page names Premium and the latest version of your DJ software as the requirements. This is the only supported way to connect rekordbox to Spotify.

03

Add Spotify to rekordbox playlists and your Collection

From version 7.2.16 onward, Spotify tracks can be added to rekordbox playlists and shown in [Collection], including tracks you loaded before the update. [Your Library] and [Made to DJ] hold your own playlists and curated ones, with playlist search, sorting and pinning. Spotify and rekordbox stay linked until you log out, but adding or removing tracks from a Spotify playlist still happens in the Spotify app.

04

Load a track and mix it against your own files

Load a Spotify track to a deck and mix it with tracks from your rekordbox music library. Spotify allows up to four tracks at once from your playlists, and only while you are online. Playback is tied to one device per account, so starting the same account somewhere else stops the audio here, mid set if you are unlucky.

05

Keep an owned copy of anything you plan to play out

Spotify tracks cannot be exported to a USB storage device and are not offered in EXPORT mode, so nothing you build from them can go on a stick for a CDJ. Buy the tracks you actually play from a download store or a record pool, import those files into your collection, and use Spotify on rekordbox for practice and for finding music.

The catch

Spotify tracks in rekordbox cannot be played offline, cannot be used with the STEMS (TRACK SEPARATION) function, and the [Analyze Track] option is not available for them. They also do not appear in Related Tracks, Track Suggestion or Streaming Radar. Availability is regional: rekordbox notes that even in regions where Spotify is available, you may not be able to use it in rekordbox and other DJ applications.

Where Vibes fits

The half of your library that can go on a USB stick.

Vibes works only on audio files you own. It has no streaming import and no Spotify playback, so nothing from your Spotify account passes through it. What it does is prepare the files you did buy: BPM, key, energy curve and sections, tags and vibes, then export playlists back to rekordbox as a folder tree. That is the part of your collection a gig can rely on when the Wi-Fi does not.

See how it works
Import Wizard pulls in a rekordbox, Serato, Traktor or Engine DJ library, an Apple Music XML, or a plain folder
Analysis gives BPM, key in Camelot, musical or Open Key, an energy curve and sections
Find Compatible surfaces harmonic neighbours inside a BPM window, half and double time aware
Exports playlists and vibes back to rekordbox, with optional key or BPM sub-folders

Organize in Vibes, export to Rekordbox.

Your playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points travel back to the gear you play on, so nothing you do in Vibes is locked away.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

Yes, on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android, with a Spotify Premium account. rekordbox announced playback from Spotify for Mac and Windows in September 2025 and for iOS and Android in December 2025. You browse and load Spotify tracks inside rekordbox and mix them against your own files. What you cannot do is take them anywhere: no USB export, no offline playback. Serato has the same arrangement.
Three usual causes. Your rekordbox build is too old, so install the newest update first. Your Spotify account is not Premium, which the integration requires. Or the integration is not offered where you are: rekordbox says that even in regions where Spotify is available, you may not be able to use it in rekordbox and other DJ applications. Spotify's DJ integration page carries the current country list.
The rekordbox side can be free. Since version 7.2.16, Spotify tracks can be added to rekordbox playlists on the Free plan. The Spotify side cannot: Premium is required for DJ software integration, per Spotify's own support page. So can rekordbox use Spotify at no cost? Not really. You may skip the rekordbox subscription, but you still pay Spotify every month for the account that makes it work.
rekordbox 7 for Mac and Windows, kept current. The rekordbox Spotify integration shipped in September 2025 and has grown since. Version 7.2.16 added Spotify tracks in [Collection], Spotify tracks in rekordbox playlists, Automix with Spotify tracks, and the [Your Library] and [Made to DJ] browsers. On phones and tablets you need a current rekordbox for iOS or Android. When in doubt, install the newest update.
No. Spotify tracks stream and stay on Spotify's side. rekordbox states they cannot be exported to a USB storage device, cannot be played offline, and that the [Analyze Track] option is not available for them. If you need files that survive a venue with bad Wi-Fi, buy them from a download store or a record pool and import those files into your collection instead.
Update rekordbox, find Spotify in the browser on the left, log in with a Spotify Premium account, then load tracks to a deck like any other. Spotify allows up to four tracks at a time from your playlists, online only. That is all it takes to use rekordbox with Spotify. Playlists themselves are still edited in the Spotify app, not inside rekordbox.
For practice at home, yes. In public, no. Spotify's terms state that the service and the music on it are for personal, non-commercial use only, and that public performance, including clubs, venues, events and livestreams, is not permitted. Can you use Spotify with rekordbox in a paid venue? Not within those terms. Paid work needs tracks you own or a service licensed for performance. More on that here.
It is excellent for finding music and rehearsing, and weak for playing out. The catalog is enormous and the login takes a minute, but you are one dropped connection from silence, STEMS is unavailable, nothing exports to USB, and the license does not cover public performance. Most DJs use it to audition tracks, then buy the ones that make the set. Beatport Streaming sits closer to real gig use.
There is no setting inside the Spotify app that turns it into DJ software. Mixing happens in a DJ app: log in to Spotify from rekordbox, Serato or djay Pro, then use the decks, tempo and cue controls there. Spotify's role stops at the catalog and your playlists, which is also the only place you can add or remove tracks from those playlists.
Tools sold as a Spotify to MP3 converter strip Spotify's protection, which its terms forbid, so we do not recommend them: NoteBurner Spotify Music Converter, Audifab Spotify Music Converter, ViWizard Spotify Music Converter, DRmare Spotify Music Converter, TuneFab Spotify Music Converter, Sidify Spotify Music Converter. Any music downloader, Spotify or otherwise, that removes protection sits in the same place, and guides on how to convert Spotify to MP3 free lead there too. Buy the track.
