Rekordbox library view ready for Cloud sync

A fully prepped library syncs cleanly across devices.

Set up rekordbox Cloud sync in Rekordbox, step by step.

rekordbox Cloud Library Sync is part of eligible rekordbox plan subscriptions (Creative, Professional, or Cloud Option) and lets you mirror your library across machines using Dropbox for audio files and AlphaTheta servers for metadata. The steps below follow the Rekordbox 7.x interface. You need a Dropbox account (free or existing) to use this feature.

01

Sign in with your AlphaTheta account

Open Rekordbox 7.x. Your login email is shown in the upper right area of the Preferences window under the PLAN or CLOUD category. Sign in with the AlphaTheta account (formerly Pioneer DJ account, renamed December 2023) attached to your rekordbox plan subscription. Cloud Library Sync requires a Creative, Professional, or Cloud Option plan tier. Confirm your plan covers it on the rekordbox.com Plans page, then activate the computer in Preferences > PLAN category by turning on the Activate this computer toggle.

02

Enable Cloud Library Sync in Preferences and connect Dropbox

Go to Preferences (Command+, on Mac, Ctrl+, on Windows) and open the CLOUD category, then the Library Sync tab. Toggle 'Sync library to another device' on. You will need to log in to your Dropbox account when prompted and authorize rekordbox to access it. Then choose your synchronization method: 'Synchronize selected music files only' (manual, pick and choose per track or playlist) or 'Synchronize all music files' (automatic upload of your full library). There is no separate bidirectional vs one-way direction setting; all devices sharing the same AlphaTheta account will receive uploads automatically.

03

Upload your library to the cloud

To upload, right-click a track or playlist in rekordbox and select Cloud Library Sync > Upload, or use the automatic upload option if you enabled it in Preferences. Rekordbox uploads the actual audio files to Dropbox and syncs metadata (playlists, cue points, beatgrids, BPM) to AlphaTheta servers in parallel. Depending on library size, the initial upload can take a significant amount of time. Keep Rekordbox open and your internet connection stable until complete.

04

Verify the library on a second device

On your second computer, open Rekordbox 7.x and sign in with the same AlphaTheta account. Open Preferences, enable Cloud Library Sync under the CLOUD category > Library Sync tab, and connect the same Dropbox account. Tracks uploaded from the first machine will download automatically. Check that your playlists, hot cue points, and track metadata match what you see on the first machine before performing. Use the Cloud column in the track browser to see which tracks are stored in the cloud vs locally.

The catch

rekordbox Cloud Library Sync uploads both your audio files (via Dropbox) and your library metadata such as playlists, cue points, and beatgrids (via AlphaTheta servers). Audio files are available for direct cloud playback or can be downloaded to each device through Dropbox, so you do not need to maintain the same local file paths on every machine. Storage limits depend on your plan: Professional gets 5TB, Cloud Option gets 1TB.

Where Vibes fits

Prep your library before it syncs.

Cloud sync moves whatever is already in Rekordbox. Vibes is where you build the playlists, tags, and cue points worth syncing in the first place, then exports them directly into your Rekordbox database so they travel with the sync.

See how it works
Tag tracks by energy, mood, and role using Vibes and Vibe Sort, then export vibe-based playlists straight into Rekordbox.
Vibes writes cue points and sections (intro, buildup, drop, outro) into Rekordbox so they appear on every synced device.
BPM, key analysis, and harmonic Camelot data from Vibes fills gaps in your library before the sync propagates incomplete metadata.
Export Combinations (tracks sharing multiple vibes) as ready-made Rekordbox playlists so your best crates sync automatically.

Organize in Vibes, export to Rekordbox.

Your playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points travel back to the gear you play on, so nothing you do in Vibes is locked away.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

No. Vibes is a desktop prep and library tool that exports into Rekordbox. Cloud sync is a Rekordbox feature that replicates your library between devices. They serve different jobs: use Vibes to build and tag your library, then let Cloud sync distribute it.
No. rekordbox Cloud sync only mirrors library metadata, playlists, and cue point data. Your actual audio files must exist on each device at the same file path, or be stored on a shared drive both machines can reach.
Yes, as long as you export from Vibes into Rekordbox on your primary machine first. Vibes writes cue points, BPM, key, and playlist data directly into the Rekordbox database, and Cloud sync then propagates that data to your other devices.
