How to ยท Serato DJ

Edit beatgrids in Serato DJ.

Serato's beatgrid editor is precise but track-by-track. Vibes runs downbeat-locked BPM analysis across your whole library first, so you go into Serato knowing exactly which tracks need attention.

Edit beatgrids in Serato DJ, step by step.

Serato DJ lets you correct a track's beatgrid directly in the library or while it is loaded in a deck. Here is the standard workflow.

01

Open the beatgrid editor

Load a track into a deck in Serato DJ Pro (works in offline player or with hardware connected). Make sure Setup > DJ Preferences > Sync Mode is set to Simple Sync with Snap to Beatgrid enabled, or Smart Sync - the Edit Grid button will not appear if Sync is set to Off or if Simple Sync is used without Snap to Beatgrid checked. Click the Edit Grid button, which is located next to the time elapsed/remaining display for the track. A blue bar appears above the waveform and the Beatgrid Editor panel opens with all grid-editing controls.

02

Set the correct downbeat

Play or scrub to the first clear beat of the track. Click the Set button (under the Markers section of the Beatgrid Editor), or press Alt+X, or Alt+click directly on the waveform transient. This places the red Downbeat Marker at that position and anchors the entire grid from that point. Getting this first anchor right makes the rest of the grid accurate.

03

Correct the BPM or position if needed

If the grid drifts in tempo across the track, use the Grid Adjust buttons (or left/right arrow keys) to expand or contract the BPM until grid lines stay locked to the kick drum throughout. If the tempo is correct but the whole grid is offset, use the Grid Slip buttons (or Ctrl+left/right arrow keys) to shift the grid without changing the BPM. For tracks with genuine tempo changes, scrub to the new tempo section and press Set again to place an additional Beat Warp Marker at that transient.

04

Save and move to the next track

Click the Save button in the Beatgrid Editor, or press Enter/Return, to write the corrected grid and exit edit mode. Pressing Esc or clicking the Edit Grid button again exits without saving all changes. The corrected grid persists across Serato sessions. Repeat for each track that needs attention.

The catch

The catch: Serato has no batch analysis view that surfaces which tracks actually have bad grids, so you end up checking tracks one at a time and may spend time on tracks that were already fine.

The faster way

Let Vibes tell you which tracks need fixing before you open Serato.

Vibes runs downbeat-locked BPM detection across your entire library at once and surfaces outliers, so your Serato editing session becomes a short, targeted list instead of a blind trawl.

See how it works
Library-wide BPM analysis runs in the background so every track is checked, not just the ones you happen to load.
Downbeat-locked beatgrid detection flags tracks where the grid looks suspect, giving you a clear hit list before you open Serato.
Key detection and energy curve analysis run alongside BPM, so prep is complete in one pass.
Vibes exports corrected metadata back into Serato .crate files and the Serato library, keeping everything in sync.

Organize in Vibes, export to Serato DJ.

Your playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points travel back to the gear you play on, so nothing you do in Vibes is locked away.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

No. Vibes is a prep and library tool, not a performance mixer. It analyzes BPM and flags problem tracks across your whole library so you know what to fix, but you still make the final manual corrections inside Serato DJ's own beatgrid editor.
Vibes stores its own BPM and beatgrid analysis internally and exports crate and library metadata back to Serato. It does not directly overwrite Serato's internal beatgrid file for a track, so your existing Serato grids are safe.
Vibes uses downbeat-locked detection during analysis. If the detected BPM or downbeat position differs significantly from what would produce a clean lock across the track, it surfaces the track so you can prioritize it for manual correction in Serato.
