Quantize

Quantize is a setting that snaps actions like setting a hot cue or starting a loop to the nearest beat on the grid, correcting slightly off timing.

Quantize forces actions like setting a hot cue or starting a loop to snap to the beatgrid, so they land exactly on the beat even if your timing is slightly off.

Why it matters

Quantize keeps cues and loops musically aligned, which makes performance tighter and is only as good as the beatgrid behind it.

Frequently asked questions

Quantize snaps your hot cues, loops, and beat jumps to the nearest beat on the beatgrid the moment you trigger them. It removes small timing imperfections so loops and cue jumps land in perfect time without manual correction.

It depends on your style. Quantize is helpful for clean cue triggering and looping, especially during busy sets. However, scratching and manual slip-style juggling often feel more natural with quantize off because it allows freer, non-grid-locked movement. Many DJs toggle it depending on the technique they are using.

Yes. Quantize relies entirely on the beatgrid being accurate. If the grid is off, quantize snaps to the wrong position and your loops will be out of time. Fix the grid first, then quantize becomes genuinely reliable.

I DJ and produce as so I so: downtempo, minimal, dub house, tech house, and techno (releases on Spotify and SoundCloud, links above). Everything I write here comes from my own gigs, studio sessions, and library cleanups: the rules I follow, the failure modes I have actually hit, and the workflow I use when nobody is watching. If a technique did not earn its place in my own sets, it does not make it into a tutorial.
