Use Stems in Traktor, step by step.
Traktor Stems is a four-channel audio format that gives you independent control over vocals, bass, melody, and drums from a single file. You need Traktor Pro 2.10 or later and a Stems-compatible controller or the software mixer to use them.
Get Stems files
Stems (.stem.mp4) files are available from select labels and producers on platforms like Beatport, Bleep, Juno, and Traxsource. Download them to a folder on your drive. Standard MP3 or WAV tracks do not become Stems files automatically inside Traktor (though Traktor Pro 4 can generate stems from regular files using AI analysis as a separate workflow).
Add your Stems folder to Traktor
Open Traktor Pro and go to Preferences, then File Management. Add your Stems folder as a Music Folder location and click Rescan. Traktor will index the .stem.mp4 files alongside your regular library.
Load a Stems track onto a deck
Drag a Stems file from the browser onto a deck. Traktor automatically detects the format and switches the deck to Stem Deck mode, showing four channel faders for Drums, Bass, Other, and Vocals. If the deck does not switch automatically, check the Loading page in Preferences and confirm the 'Load as Stem' behavior is set correctly.
Mix and isolate stems live
Use the four stem channel faders to mute, blend, or boost individual layers in real time. You can drop the vocal out of an incoming track while keeping the beat, or bring up just the bass of a playing track to create a smooth transition. Traktor also supports per-stem FX sends on supported setups, letting you route effects independently to each stem channel.
The catch
The Stems format requires specially prepared .stem.mp4 files for the traditional workflow, so your existing MP3 and WAV collection cannot be used as Stems without re-purchasing Stems-format versions. Traktor Pro 4 adds a separate AI-powered Generate Stems feature that can create stem versions from regular tracks in your library, but this produces locally stored generated files and is a distinct workflow from playing pre-made .stem.mp4 downloads.
Where Vibes fits
Prep your Stems crates before you play.
Vibes does not perform Stems mixing, but it is where you organize the tracks you plan to play. Tag your Stems files by energy, mood, and role so you can find the right one in seconds during a live set, then export clean playlists straight into Traktor.
