How to ยท Traktor Pro

Set quantize (beat snap) in Traktor Pro.

Snap and Quantize in Traktor Pro keep your cue points, loops, and deck loads locked to the beat. A tight beatgrid is what makes them reliable.

Snap and Quantize buttons sit in the deck header. Accurate beatgrids make them work.

Set quantize (beat snap) in Traktor Pro, step by step.

Traktor Pro 4 separates two related controls: Snap locks stored cue points and loop endpoints to beat-grid positions when you set them, and Quantize ensures those actions fire on the nearest beat boundary during playback. Both are in the Master Control panel at the center of the interface. Both must be on for fully grid-locked performance.

01

Enable Snap in the Master Control panel

In the Global Section - the center strip of the Traktor Pro interface between the decks - locate the Master Control panel. Click the SNAP button so it lights up. With Snap active, any cue point or loop marker you set will lock to the nearest beat-grid position rather than the exact playhead position. This applies globally across all four decks.

02

Enable Quantize in the Master Control panel

Next to SNAP, click the QUANT button so it also lights up. Quantize ensures that triggering a stored cue point or activating a loop during live playback waits for, or snaps to, the nearest beat boundary. Without it, jumps happen the instant you press the button regardless of where the beat falls.

03

Note: there is no global Quantize Size preference

Traktor Pro does not offer a global quantize resolution setting in Preferences. The SNAP and QUANT controls operate at 1-beat resolution for Track Decks and Stem Decks. Sub-beat quantize values (1/2, 1/4, 1/8) are available only in the Remix Deck header, not as a global preference. If you need tighter-than-one-beat snap for loop work, use the Remix Deck's built-in quantize value selector in its Deck Header.

04

Verify your beatgrid is accurate

Snap and Quantize are only as good as the underlying beatgrid. Load a track and open the Stripe - the full-track waveform strip at the bottom of the deck - or zoom the main waveform to confirm the grid markers align with transients throughout the track, not just at the beginning. If the grid drifts, open the GRID tab in the deck's Advanced panel and use the MOVE GRID BWD/FWD buttons or tap the BPM manually to correct it before your set. Traktor Pro 4 also supports flexible beatgrids for tracks with variable tempo.

The catch

Traktor's auto-analysis sets an initial beatgrid, but on tracks with variable BPM or unusual timing it can drift, which means Snap will fire on the wrong beat until you manually correct the grid in the GRID tab of the deck's Advanced panel.

Where Vibes fits

Tight beatgrids before the gig, not during it

Vibes analyzes every track in your library at prep time, building a downbeat-locked beatgrid so that when you load the track in Traktor, Snap and Quantize work accurately from the first bar. You fix grid problems in your library manager, not in the heat of a set.

See how it works
Downbeat-locked beatgrid built during track analysis, exported directly into your Traktor NML file
BPM detection reviewed track-by-track so grid drift is caught before you hit the decks
Key and BPM displayed together so you can spot analysis outliers and re-analyze individual tracks
Clean, corrected library exported back to Traktor so every session starts with accurate grids ready for Snap

Organize in Vibes, export to Traktor Pro.

Your playlists, tags, ratings, and cue points travel back to the gear you play on, so nothing you do in Vibes is locked away.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

No. Snap and Quantize are live performance controls inside Traktor Pro itself. Vibes is a library prep app that runs before your set, building accurate beatgrids so those Traktor controls behave correctly when you need them.
The most common cause is a drifting beatgrid. If the grid markers fall slightly off the actual beats, Quantize snaps to those wrong positions. Correct the grid in the beatgrid editor (or in your library prep workflow before the gig) and the latency feel disappears.
Snap controls where cue points and loop markers are stored: with Snap on, they lock to grid positions. Quantize controls when a cue jump or loop activation fires during playback: with Quantize on, the action waits for the nearest beat boundary. You typically want both enabled together.
