How to ยท Traktor Pro

Add album artwork in Traktor Pro.

Artwork is stored inside the audio file itself, not in Traktor. Embed it at the file level and every app including Traktor displays it automatically.

Vibes DJ library showing organized tracks ready for export

A clean, tagged library makes every app look better.

Add album artwork in Traktor Pro, step by step.

Traktor Pro reads artwork from the audio file's embedded metadata tags at import time, extracting and caching the image in its own Coverart folder. The most reliable approach is to embed artwork at the file level using a tag editor before importing, or to use Traktor's built-in right-click 'Import Cover' option to assign artwork track by track directly inside the app.

01

Find or download the artwork

Source a high-quality image for the release, ideally square and at least 500x500 pixels. JPEG is the most compatible format for embedded audio metadata. You can find artwork via music stores, Discogs, or the label's press pack.

02

Embed artwork using a tag editor

Open the audio file in a dedicated tag editor such as Mp3tag (Windows/Mac) or Kid3 (Windows/Mac/Linux). Locate the artwork field, drag in your image or use the import option, then save. This writes the image directly into the file's ID3 (MP3) or Vorbis/FLAC tag so every app reads it from the same source.

03

Add or refresh artwork in Traktor Pro

For tracks already in your collection, right-click the track in the browser and choose 'Import Cover' to select a JPEG from your computer - Traktor stores it in its own Coverart cache and displays it immediately. Alternatively, if you updated the file's embedded tags externally, right-click the track and choose 'Re-Analyse Tracks', then check 'Update Artwork (from ID3 tags)' to pull the new image in. For a freshly imported track with artwork already embedded, Traktor extracts the image automatically at import time.

04

Confirm artwork appears in the deck

Load the track into a deck and check that the artwork thumbnail appears. Note that cover art only displays in certain deck layouts - it is visible in the Small and Full deck views but not in the Micro or Essential layouts. If artwork is still missing, verify the file was saved correctly by reopening it in the tag editor before trying again in Traktor.

The catch

Traktor Pro does not have a built-in bulk artwork downloader, so files with missing artwork must be fixed externally or assigned one by one using the right-click 'Import Cover' option. Traktor caches artwork in its own proprietary Coverart folder rather than writing back to the audio file, so embedded tags and Traktor's display can diverge if files are edited after import.

Frequently asked questions

The honest answers, including the trade-offs.

No. Vibes is a library prep and export tool. It does not embed or edit audio file artwork. Use a dedicated tag editor like Mp3tag to embed artwork, then Traktor and Vibes will both read it from the file automatically.
Some apps store artwork in their own internal database rather than inside the file. Traktor only reads artwork that is actually embedded in the audio file's metadata tags. Re-embed the image using Mp3tag or Kid3 to make it appear in Traktor.
JPEG images at 500x500 pixels or larger work reliably. Very large images above 3000x3000 pixels can occasionally slow tag reads across a large collection, so a square JPEG between 500 and 1500 pixels is a practical target.
